Courtney & John | Engaged in Chicago
Chicago is a place we’ve been many times and it’s special to have a small history there (including one of the first ever days Karl and I spent together.) In addition to exploring new-to-us neighborhoods and taking a couple food tours, we met Courtney and John for an engagement session! Their wedding will take place here in Naples, but they call Chicago home. We started shooting in their neighborhood, made our way downtown, and ended up on North Avenue Beach to watch the city lights appear at dusk.
Destination Engagement Photography | Rome Italy | Sarah & Niall
It’s been such a short week since returning from my destination wedding in Rome, Italy. Sarah & Niall are an amazing couple who have been together for ten years, five of those engaged. From Ireland, they decided that it was time to make things official by having a destination wedding in Rome. I love destination weddings because it gives me the time to really know everyone. I spent the better part of three days with this family, and I loved every minute. We were also joined by the talented Julie Brewer of Brewer Photography & Videography who assisted me in shooting.
The day before the wedding we spent a few hours strolling the streets for Sarah & Niall’s engagement session. We were able to capture some amazing images and enjoy the sights, all while minding the crazy motorists.
Below you see the view out my hotel window. To the right of my balcony there stood an amazing fountain, and to the left was the Monumento Nazionale a Vittorio Emanuele II
We tried to see the Pope speak on Wednesday, but by the time we arrived all the seats were filled. It still made for an awesome photo-op, and we were able to see and listen to the Pope via large televisions.
What amazes me are the millions of scooters zipping around Rome and the way they weave in and out of traffic. It wouldn’t be fitting to take a picture in Rome without involving one.
My absolute favorite place in Rome has to be the Villa Borghese Gardens. From there you have the most stunning vantage point of the city, and then behind you one of the most idyllic gardens you will ever see.
The Spanish steps, here just after dark, stay packed up until midnight. Great for people-watching.
A quick sneak peak from the wedding- this shot was taken at about 1:30AM on the Spanish Steps. We were all exhausted, but the shots were worth the hike. A fitting closing shot for a wonderful day. I’m working hard to have the wedding day blog post up this week.
Destination Engagement Photography | Grand Rapids, Michigan | Amanda & Brett
No matter when I fly north to visit family I always manage to find myself shooting. After spending Saturday photographing a pretty farm wedding (see previous post) I met up with Amanda & Brett to do their Sunday engagement photos. I already knew we were going to have fun: Amanda was a bridesmaid in her sister Jen’s wedding last year. The whole family is awesome and I can’t wait to be a part of their wedding in Detroit next year.
Destination Wedding | Grand Rapids, MI | Kajean & Dave
I had the pleasure to fly down up to Grand Rapids, Michigan to shoot a wonderful farm wedding in Hastings (which is 30 minutes south of GR.) Kajean is a friend from college with whom I was recently reunited. It was great to see her and to be invited to such a wonderful day in her life. Congrats to the both of you!
Destination Engagement Photography | Detroit, MI | Jen & Jason Engagement Photos
I met Jen & Jason at a wedding I shot on Sanibel island last November, we quickly determined that our styles fit. The next thing I know I’m up in Milford Michigan taking their engagement photos. I will be up there again on August to photograph this awesome couple’s wedding. We spent the morning walking around this quaint city having a great time. It almost makes me sad having to come back to Southwest Florida, but Naples isn’t too bad either. Take a look at the photos to see how much fun we had.
